Yes, you heard right, the challenges of breastfeeding.....
Everyone assumes that breastfeeding will be easy because its natural and we were built to do this, unfortunately this isn't the case for some women. Some problems are easy little fixes, like changing positions or getting a deeper latch which in the majority of cases is the problem. However, some more challenging things are vasospasm, engorgement, oversupply, low supply,
trying to avoid recurrent mastitis which can lead to breast abscess to name a few.
Breastfeeding and/or pumping should not HURT if done correctly. I can't stress how important this is! So many women will say to me it only hurts a little or it pinches but I have got used to it, so its ok. As IBCLCs we don't want to hear this, we want you to be comfortable, relaxed and enjoy the experience (and beautiful bond that breastfeeding creates) because if you aren't babies can pick up on any anxiety and stress and then fight the situation but more importantly an incorrect latch can have detrimental impacts on your milk supply.
So, if this is you, please reach other to me or any other IBCLC so we can get you on a more positive breastfeeding journey.
You can find an IBCLC who is local to you here at www.lcanz.com
